Mail in Burkina Faso 101

Well, finally after 3 months of waiting, Our younger sponsored girls grandmother went up to the post office. She haggled and insisted with the postal workers that the box was there. She showed them a copy of the customs form. Finally, they agreed that the box must be somewhere. It was. Buried in the bowls of the office and covered with dust it was finally found. There were several things laying on top of it. The girls got their computer! Very late indeed, BUT it did arrive and safely. That makes 100% on all the packages and mail I have sent over the years. Here are some tips for Burkina mail.

1. Be very, very patient. Even though it says 7-10 days at the post office, figure 3-5 weeks.
2. It looks as though all mail goes into Ouagadougou. If you are out in a village, you must go in to pick up mail. I am not sure if mail goes directly to the other cities or not.
3. It is expensive.
4. You must show id to pick up mail.
5. Customs must be paid on that end too.
